Scotty’s Springboard to J.P. Morgan
Scotty approached investment banking recruiting early, and he knew that to compete with students from target schools, he needed more than interest—he needed real technical ability. Through the Adventis FMC® Program, he gained a foundational understanding of financial modeling and accounting that gave him the confidence to navigate interviews and land an investment banking summer analyst role at J.P. Morgan in New York.
Student Success Story: How Adventis Gave Scotty a Competitive Edge
Scotty completed the FMC® Program over the summer between his freshman and sophomore years and earned his certification in the fall. For him, the value of the program was immediate and clear.
“The biggest benefit was just understanding how financial modeling works and how all the statements flow together. That helped me lock down my accounting knowledge and technical prep for interviews.”
With Adventis under his belt, Scotty could do more than just answer interview questions—he could show real modeling proficiency and explain his thinking. That understanding gave him a major advantage during technical interviews and networking conversations.
“I was able to talk about it in networking calls and interviews—I could say I knew how to build a circular, three-statement model. Interviewers were generally impressed by that.”
Supporting Others Through Adventis
As an incoming TCMS president, Scotty now helps freshmen navigate their own technical training. Adventis has become his go-to resource when members run into modeling roadblocks.
“Our freshmen are working on a project where they build a model for a real company. I keep pointing them back to Adventis—it’s the best resource for understanding how the model should actually work.”
He’s also on track to become an Adventis Student Trainer, so TCMS can run its own in-person boot camps led by certified peers.
“Just getting faster and better at modeling—especially in Excel—is something I’m really excited about. It’ll definitely help going into internships.”
Setting a New Standard at UT
Scotty isn’t just using Adventis for his own prep—he’s part of the leadership team ensuring the Class of 2028 meets a higher bar. With full enrollment and certification requirements now in place, the club’s technical rigor is increasing.
“This next class should be completely certified before recruiting even begins. That’s a huge shift from just a year ago.”
By integrating Adventis early and deeply, Scotty is helping UT finance students close the gap with candidates from target schools—and set a new standard for technical preparation for TCMS members.
“As I was going through technical prep, Adventis was always in the back of my mind—having already built the model helped everything click. It made it easier to understand accounting and gave me something concrete to talk about in interviews.”

Shaping the Future of Tennessee’s Investment Banking Talent Through the FMC® Program
The University of Tennessee isn't a traditional target for Wall Street recruiting—but that hasn't stopped the Tennessee Capital Markets Society (TCMS) from building one of the most hands-on, selective finance organizations in the Southeast. By making the Adventis Financial Modeling Certification (FMC®) Program a requirement for members starting with the Class of 2028, TCMS is sending a clear message: technical excellence is non-negotiable.
