Sven’s Path to Piper Sandler

Sven began his college journey with an open mind. As a freshman in the Honors College at the University of South Carolina, he was exploring interests across international business, finance, and data analytics without a clear direction in finance.

“I was a freshman, I had no real clue what I wanted to do,” Sven shared.

That changed when he took a proactive step toward building his skill set early. Through the Carolina Finance Scholars Program, he was introduced to Adventis through an on-campus bootcamp. That decision became a turning point in his journey, ultimately helping him secure a 2027 Investment Banking Summer Analyst Internship at Piper Sandler.

Student Success Story: Gaining Technical Foundations Before the Classroom

Sven began the FMC® Program during his freshman year, before taking any formal finance courses. The experience exposed him to core investment banking concepts well ahead of his peers.

“I was going through DCFs, LBOs, all this stuff that I really had no idea about,” he said.

The in-person boot camp provided an intensive introduction to financial modeling, supported by guided instruction and hands-on learning.

“They throw a lot at you, but when you have a student walking you through it, it definitely makes things a lot easier,” Sven explained.

From there, he continued building his understanding through the program’s online resources, reinforcing concepts at his own pace.

“Being able to go back, look at the videos, and actually digest what you’re taking in was helpful.”

This early exposure gave Sven a meaningful advantage, not only in recruiting but also in the classroom.

“Having that baseline understanding of how the three statements link together before any finance classes was super important.”

Translating Skills Into Real Opportunities

Sven’s preparation through Adventis quickly translated into real-world experience. During his freshman summer, he secured an internship where his modeling foundation proved valuable from day one.

“Having that basic three-statement model knowledge and understanding how everything links together really helped me out,” he noted.

As he progressed into recruiting for his investment banking summer internship, Adventis continued to play a key role. The certification stood out on his resume and became a frequent topic in interviews.

“It came up frequently in interviews, and being able to clearly walk through how I earned the certification gave me another box checked and a meaningful accolade.”

By combining technical knowledge with the ability to clearly explain his experience, Sven positioned himself as a well-prepared candidate and ultimately earned an offer from Piper Sandler.

A Program That Rewards Effort

Reflecting on his experience, Sven emphasizes that the value of Adventis depends on the effort students put into it.

“It’s a program where you get out what you put in. The more you focus on understanding why things work the way they do, the more engaged you become in finance.”

He also encourages students who are unsure about pursuing a career in finance to use the program as a way to explore the field.

“If you’re on the fence, putting yourself into it will help you realize whether you actually enjoy finance or not,” he explained.

Building Confidence for the Future

For Sven, Adventis was more than a technical course. It was a foundation that helped him move from uncertainty to clarity, from limited exposure to real-world readiness.

By starting early and committing to building practical skills, he stood out in a competitive recruiting environment and ultimately secured his junior summer internship.

“Adventis was a meaningful step in the right direction and played a key role in building my foundation early.”
