Adventis has established a strong presence at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, empowering students with essential real-world technical skills through the Financial Modeling Certification® (FMC®) Program. Over the years, many UGA students have leveraged the FMC® Program to pursue careers in investment banking, private equity, and other competitive finance roles. One such student is Tim, UGA Class of 2019, who began his post-graduate career at Truist Securities and now works in private equity at Nolan Capital.

When Tim first arrived at the University of Georgia, a career in finance wasn’t on his radar. “I had no idea what an investment banker was,” Tim admits. “I had no idea what careers were really available in finance.”

It wasn’t until his sophomore year that he began exploring different paths. But it was during his junior year—after enrolling in the Adventis boot camp—that everything clicked. “That course helped me understand the day-to-day responsibilities of an investment banking analyst,” he shared. “That’s when I knew I wanted to pursue that career path.”

“You sit in the interview and can picture the Adventis model as you walk through how $10 of depreciation affects the three statements,” Tim said. “It’s a very helpful tool.”

The Adventis certification didn’t just prepare him—it differentiated him.

“I had the certification on my resume, and most interviewers asked about it. It gave me an edge. I could confidently address technical questions, and I think that definitely set me apart from other candidates.”

Real-World Application and Visualization

Beyond memorizing formulas, Tim learned how to think critically about financial scenarios. 

“The FMC® Program taught me how to not only do the technical modeling work, which is table stakes, but also how to articulate concepts and visualize how certain transactions might impact the financials of a business.”

“I think the thing that stands out with Adventis is where it meets students in their path,” he said. “A lot of resources come later—once you're already in a job—but Adventis reaches students early, which makes a big difference.”

Giving Back as a Student Trainer

Tim didn’t just complete the FMC® Program—he taught it. “I had the opportunity to be a student trainer and lead a couple of bootcamps at the University of Georgia. Those were invaluable experiences for me while I was preparing for my professional career.”

The combination of technical preparation, teaching experience, and early exposure to high-finance roles helped launch Tim into investment banking at Truist Securities, and ultimately, into private equity at Nolan Capital.
