Will's Journey from Adventis Student Trainer to Private Equity at OMERS

Private Equity, OMERS

Since 2016, Adventis has helped students from the University of Georgia (UGA) gain a competitive edge in finance by delivering world-class training through the Financial Modeling Certification® (FMC®) Program. Among UGA's standout alums is Will, Class of 2019, who went from a non-target school to investment banking at Centerview and now thrives in private equity at OMERS. His journey exemplifies how Adventis empowers students to rise above barriers and build lasting success in high finance.

Student Success Story: Will's Journey

Will's interest in finance began early. With a father in corporate finance and a brother-in-law in investment banking, he entered college already curious about the field. But as a student at a non-target school, Will knew that ambition alone wouldn't be enough. "I knew I wanted to do investment banking," he said, "and figured I needed every little piece of help I could get."

That's when he found the FMC® Program.

As a freshman, Will enrolled in Adventis's training and was quickly drawn to its hands-on approach:

"Going through Adventis helped connect things from a technical perspective—weaving accounting and finance together."

For Will, it wasn't just about building a model; it was about building confidence.

"Having the framework of a three-statement model is just a helpful mental model. When you actually build it and do it in practice, it takes you to that next level of understanding."

This foundational knowledge helped him stand out in technical interviews—especially when asked how specific accounting changes flow through financial statements.

"When you've modeled out the three statements, it makes it a lot easier to think through technical questions."

How Becoming an Adventis Student Trainer Deepened His Expertise

By his junior and senior years, Will had become more than a student—he was teaching others. As a Student Trainer for Adventis, he reinforced his knowledge by guiding peers through the same program that had propelled his growth.

"To be able to teach something, you really have to know it… Being a teacher and instructor was even more impactful than just taking the course itself."

Teaching not only strengthened his grasp of technical concepts but also refined his communication and leadership skills—traits essential in both investment banking and private equity.

Why Adventis Stands Out

Will credits Adventis's in-person boot camp format as a critical differentiator.

"It's a long weekend, but being there in person and being able to ask questions… it gives you that tangible, hands-on experience."

The program's structure—guided instruction followed by solo practice—allowed Will to both absorb and apply the concepts in real-time.

"It's a good mix of guided instruction paired with do-it-yourself concept application."

Advice for Underclassmen

Looking back, Will strongly recommends the Adventis FMC® Program to students preparing for competitive careers in finance:

"The finance career is super competitive, and the more you can do to prepare yourself with stuff you're going to be doing on the job, the better. It prepares you not just for interviews—but to succeed on the job."

He also cautions against overconfidence:

"Every junior in college who's taken a few finance classes probably thinks they fully understand valuation and modeling… but there's a lot you don't know."

From UGA to OMERS

With the help of technical training, interview preparation, and leadership development gained through Adventis, Will launched a successful career in investment banking at Centerview Partners. Today, he continues to apply those skills as a private equity investor at OMERS.

Will's success underscores the value of real-world training delivered by the Adventis FMC® Program. For students at both target and non-target schools, Adventis provides the tools not only to compete but also to lead in high finance.
